Dr Jim Walsh
Chief Executive Officer
Jim Walsh has 25 years general management experience in the healthcare industry with particular experience in diagnostics. He holds Non Executive Director positions with Trinity Biotech Plc (NASDAQ: TRIB) and Puricore Plc (LONDON: PURI). Previously he was Managing Director of Cambridge Diagnostics Ltd a wholly owned subsidiary of Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. Jim is a graduate of the National University of Ireland and holds a doctorate in Inorganic Chemistry and post doctorate qualifications in immunochemistry.
Diarmuid Flavin
Chief Operating Officer
Diarmuid has 15 years’ management experience in the healthcare industry, from diagnostics to medical devices and sterile parenteral pharmaceutical manufacture. Previously he was Cardiac Therapies Quality Operations Manger at Abbott Vascular. Before joining Abbot he worked with Bioniche as both QA and QC Manager and DeRoyal Europe Ltd and Xenith Biomed as Quality Manager. Diarmuid is a graduate of the National University of Ireland and holds an MSc in pharmaceutical manufacturing technology, a higher diploma in QA assurance and a BSc in microbiology.
Marie Rooney
Product Development Manager
Marie has 20 years’ general management experience in the healthcare industry with particular experience in diagnostics. She operates as a consultant to the diagnostics and medical device industry. Ms. Rooney was Operations Manager with Trinity Biotech Plc, an Irish headquartered diagnostics company. Previously, Marie was an R&D scientist with Cambridge Diagnostics Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Inverness Medical Innovations inc. Marie is a graduate of the University of Limerick and holds a Masters degree in Project Management.
Bill Boteler
Business Development Manager and Non-Executive Board Member
Bill worked at Microbiological Associates (currently Lonsa) upon graduating from the University of Maryland. He became the head of R&D and Production of the diagnostic product line. During this time he obtained an MBA from Mount St Mary’s College. He was involved with the first ELISA product that obtained approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Over his career he has obtained close to 100 FDA approvals for diagnostic products, with many being the first through the FDA, such as assays for Lyme Disease and Helicobactor pylori. He left the company in 1993 to start his own company, Immuno Probe Inc. Immuno Probe has developed numerous diagnostic products, obtained FDA approval and licensed them out to diagnostic Companies for manufacture and sale. The company also produces and markets numerous ELISA products for the life science market in the area of lab animal diagnostics and drug discovery.

Alan O’Connell
Non-Executive Director
Alan O’Connell is a Partner of Seroba Kernel Life Sciences Ltd. He has a background in product development and commercialization in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Alan currently sits on the boards of Diabetica, Crescent Diagnostics and Biosensia. Prior to joining Seroba in 2003, he worked in a variety of product development and business development roles at Elan Corporation (Dublin), American Biogenetic Sciences, Inc. (New York), and the Medicines Control Agency (London). His previous venture capital experience was gained at Estée Lauder Investments (New York) and he still sits on the Lauder Scientific Advisory Board. Alan graduated with a PhD from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1994 and has an MSc from the University of London (1990). He carried out postdoctoral neuroscience research at University College Dublin and has published in several scientific journals.
Vivian McGuire
Non-Executive Director
Vivian is General Partner and CEO of Street Capital Partners, a venture capital company based in Dublin, Ireland. Prior to founding Street Capital Partners in December 2001, he was co-founder of Allen McGuire & Partners, a private equity investment company, and before that he spent six years as a Vice President with Goldman Sachs & Co. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Dublin and an MBA from Cornell University.
Mark Horgan
Non-Executive Director
Mark is a Venture Partner at Atlantic Bridge Ventures where he is a director in a number of Atlantic Bridge’s portfolio companies. He most recently was CEO of Mentor Capital, a venture capital firm he founded that specialised in investing in and mentoring early growth stage technology companies. Previously he was Group Financial Director of enterprise software company Mentec Ltd, where he executed a number of M&A deals. He has held various senior financial and operations positions in the Mentec group, and a number of senior financial management positions in McInerney Properties plc and at Eastman Kodak. Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork and an MBA from University College Dublin. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Dr. Gareth Redmond
Non-Executive Director and Founder
Gareth Redmond is a co-founder of Biosensia. He has held research appointments in a number of European Universities including the Ecole Polytechnique in Lausanne, Switzerland, University of Bath, U.K., University College Dublin, Ireland, Director of the Nanotechnology Group at the Tyndall (NMRC) National Institute in University College Cork, Ireland and is currently Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and the School of Physics, University College Dublin.
Dr. Gabriel Crean
Non-Executive Director and Founder
Gabriel has previously founded two companies, Firecomms Limited (Photonic light source company) and Optical Metrology Innovations Limited (Semiconductor metrology company) before co-founding Biosensia. He was CEO of the National Microelectronics Research Centre, Ireland’s largest research institute in micro- and nano-technologies, from 1999 until 2005 with a staff of 270 researchers. Gabriel is currently Director of Research at Athlone Institute of Technology.
